If you have very limited time in NZ come here. It won't give you a sense of the real NZ, but it's the picture perfect vistas that you've seen in all the ads. 

The irony is hardly anybody lives here, so you can often drive for miles without passing another car and then sudden upon 10 tourist buses. The lack of people is what makes it so beautiful as you can wonder why  such a pretty place hasn't been destroyed by commercialism, but remember just how long it took you to get here.
